EADS Defence & Security (DS) Division is going global and leveraging technology to stay
ahead of the game. While the platforms produced by Eurofighter and MBDA – wherein
the EADS stakes are managed by DS – are still profitable, the division is focusing more
on systems.
US Navy stumbles with DDG-1000
On 7 April 2006, the ex-DD(X)/DD-21 was renamed the DDG-1000, Zumwalt-class.
The ship has raised as many expectations as criticism from observers as well as within
the US Navy, which keeps losing more and more ships year after year, and the number
of orders for new ones does seem to offset the decrease.
Severnoye DB eyes the world
Boasting of over 550 ships built, with total displacement exceeding 1.5 million tons,
Severnoye Design Bureau has come a long way since its establishment on 22 April 1946.
