Oxygen Cylinder Cause Of Qantas Incident
 Investigations into the explosion that ripped a gaping hole in a Qantas 747-400 in mid-flight on July 25 revealed that it was due to an exploding oxygen cylinder located below the cabin floor.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), assisted by a number of other organizations and agencies including the Philippines Civil Aviation Authority, the National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration,
Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia, Qantas and Boeing, have determined that about 55 minutes after departure from Hong Kong , when the aircraft was established at a cruising altitude
of 29,000 ft, the pilots reported a hearing a ‘loud bang or cracking sound’ with an associated airframe jolt. At the time the autopilot was disconnected, and the first officer, who was the pilot flying at the time, assumed manual control of the aircraft.

track for bio-fuel flight test
 Air New Zealand is a step closer to its bio-fuel flight test using a 747-400 aircraft,
with the refining of the sustainable
fuel underway in the US.
Air NZ General Manager Airline Operations David Morgan said that the refined fuel, which is sourced from the jatropha curcas plant, will then be sent to Rolls- Royce for testing
and approval.
A date for the test flight will be firmed up once testing is completed. but it will be subject to regulatory approval from New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority. The flight will depart from and return to Auckland Airport, with one of the four Rolls-Royce engines on the 747-400 test...

PAL Post Profit
Despite soaring fuel prices, Philippine Airlines (PAL) posted a profit of US$30.6 million for the year ending March 31, a drop of 76.6% over last year. It was the carrier’s fourth straight profit and the first after it was released from an eight-year receivership. Revenue increased 15% to US$1.46 billion with cargo contributing.

Boeing Completes Work On First BBJ 3
 Boeing recently completed work on the first BBJ 3, a new larger business jet based on the Boeing Next-Generation 737-900ER. The BBJ 3 has 1,120 sq ft (104 sq meters) of floor space, and provides 35% more interior space and 89% more luggage space than the BBJ 2. The new business jet’s range is between 5,345 nm (10,066 km) and 4,725 nm (8,751 km) depending on the number of passengers flown.
