Competition to heat up in LLC segment in Korea
Competition in South Korea’s low cost airline segment will heat up later this month (July) when a third low cost carrier (LCC), Jin Air starts operations.

The other two LCCs are Cheongjubased Hangsung Airlines and Jeju-based Jeju Air. Wholly-owned by Korean Air, Jin Air was before its launch on June 16 known as Air Korea. In Chinese ‘Jin’ means genuine.

Jin Air ceo Jae Jun Kim said the carrier was renamed so as not to confuse the market with its parent company, Korean Air. “We wanted an identity of our own,” said Jae.

The airline’s target market is the late teens to young executives. Jin Air which will be based at the Gimpo International Airport (GIA) in Seoul will start operations on July 17 initially with one 737- 800 aircraft offering four daily flights to Jeju, a popular island resort.
